Your Soul in One Word - Discussion Empty Your Soul in One Word - Discussion

Post by Dr. Phazon Sat 26 Nov 2011, 9:26 pm

So this here thread is for the purpose of discussing the plot of Your Soul in One Word, as well as the RP in general. Hopefully, we can work something out that has just the right balance of confusion, epicness, and drama. Below is the Plot Outline, which is divided into four main parts: Setting, General Pre-Plot, General Plot, and Character Plots (which is then subdivided for individual characters).

Setting: Modern New York CIty

General Pre-Plot:

General Plot: The plot will be divided into arcs.
1. The first arc will be based on the good guys awakening to their powers and developing them. Lord Dictionary and Cyrus will both have very little presence in this arc, likely as vaguely mentioned background characters who rarely if ever show up in the presence of the good guys. Instead, the villains of this arc will be some hilariously incompetent minions or something, Team Rocket-style, that Lord Dictionary has sent to take care of business in New York.
2. The second arc will likely involve the emergence proper of Lord Dictionary and Cyrus onto the scene, though at this point Dictionary will still probably maintain a mostly background status as compared to Cyrus. It will possibly involve the heroes' first real defeat, the regaining of their morale, and then their growth as a result (both as characters and fighters). The arc will then culminate with the the showdown at the Well of Time and Cyrus' death.
3. Actual fight against Lord Dictionary or something, whatever.

Character Plots:

-Alex Johnson:

-Cyrus:

-Dahlia Tennyson:

-Gregorich Gevaltavish:

-Jeremy Jones:

-Lord Dictionary:

-Simon ___:

So some amount of discussion with David yielded a fairly good idea for Cyrus' plot, and also some of Lord Dictionary's plot. I'll divide it into steps here, to put it simply.

1. Cyrus is "born" at a magical site of some sort, which David and I have been calling the Well of Time.
2. By the nature of his birth, Cyrus is given the power of the word Anomaly, but is also bound by fate to obey Lord Dictionary, who was responsible for his "birth".
3. Cyrus serves Lord Dictionary and his agenda.
4. The events of the RP take place.
5. At some point in the RP, Lord Dictionary gives Cyrus his final task of destroying a magical artifact. This can only be accomplished by tossing said artifact into the Well of Time.
6. Syrus falls/is pushed/jumps/whatevers down the Well of Time with the magical artifact in tow.
7. The powerful magical nature of the Well of Time tears everything in it apart, including the the artifact and Cyrus, as well as throws the shreds across time.
8. The pieces of the artifact and part of Cyrus are tossed approximately 200 years into the past, their essences merged together to create a being with the qualities of both- that is to say, Cyrus himself.
9. The rest of Cyrus somehow survives or otherwise escapes the Well, and now that he has died, Cyrus has reached the end of his destiny. Surviving his own death has allowed him to escape the one law that could hold even him, that of fate.
10. No longer bound by fate to serve Lord Dictionary, Cyrus seeks him out for revenge.

Also, I think it would be best if Lord Dictionary were somehow responsible for Cyrus going down the well, as that could be the reason he is bound by fate to serve him: put good in, get good out. That sort of thing.

Well for pre-plot we could always just have Lord Dictionary show up and declare ownership of the world?

I don't know, I had kind of imagined that the RP would start of with you guys awakening to your powers and growing stronger with them for a while, during which time Lord English Dictionary and most of the actual plot itself would be kind of out of site. Like, Dictionary is lurking vaguely in the background, sending a few minions or giant monsters out at New York to take care of business there and maybe his name is mentioned a few times by said minions. The good guys would catch wind of it eventually and then the real plot would start to unfold.

I guess what I'm suggesting is kind of like separate arcs, the first one being about you guys getting your powers and developing and such 'n such, then the second one involving the actual real story of the RP.

And also that's far too hammy for that early on in the RP. We must ease gently into the hamminess.

Hahah, true enough@Hammy comment.

Hm...

Well I like that. I'm kinda confused why you don't just do that? XD

The first arc at the very least is a damn good start.

As for the other arcs, yeah I can see that happening. We start with the characters figuring out their powers, then some kinda whatevertypeofmonstersyouthinkwouldwork show up and start terrorizing New York.

Then the characters, realising they can do supernatural things, begin to fight against the monsters.

This eventually leads to them training and becoming more powerful, and fighting stronger monstersorwhatever, and then they are also physically becoming even more impressive.

Character Plot!

Most of the characters have standard control over their powers. But when one character goes up a level s/he loses control of his/her new ability and it stirs up the cauldron a little. Twist is that no one knows that character is the one responsible for the chaos until near the end.

Can this be considered as a mini-arc?

Also don't forget the * ~TEAM BONDING~ * and character development that would surely occur as well. If we want to do that sort of thing, that is. I can actually poop out some lackeys to use for this first arc, possibly as recurring characters who have words of their own. In fact, I already have some ideas in mind for that...

Also, that would give me something to do as Cyrus will likely be staying mostly in the background for that first arc as well.

EDIT@Emo: I dunno, it seems like an interesting idea, but I don't know who would have a word that would fit that sort of unpredictable behavior, except, you know, my character. Who has had two centuries to develop and master his powers already. Also if we did do that, I think it would be best for it to be integrated into another arc (like as a subplot point) rather than having a whole mini-arc dedicated to that as the primary plot point.

Well, if we had a power go haywire as a subplot/miniplot, then Memory could do that. As could Ressurection now I think about it.

I mean, we could dredge up dead people. Not their true bodies or anything, but just their memories. And it would freak people out and cause ANGST. Also instead of dead people, it could be that people are randomly reliving times in their past.

Then again IDK how this could lead to any powerups...

And please do that Phazon. We need a Team Rocket sorta duo or something I think, as starter villians.

I've updated the outline the include our ideas for the arcs. For the second arc, I'm thinking it would basically be Lord Dictionary growing tired of Team Incompetent Minions' repeated failures, resulting in him sending in Cyrus, who will whip Team Good Guys various times, shattering their confidence, before they get inspired to continue fighting, and culminating in the event at the Well of Time where they finally defeat Cyrus. Or something like that. The procuring and destruction of the magical artifact will likely be what the individual conflicts are about.
