David here, with a few quick guidelines!

First of all, I'd like to point out that generic magic is an option for those who want to do that.

However, for those who want a little more oomph for their creativity, this is a topic where you can create an entire school of magic that is unique to itself.

Interesting fact is, no matter what kind of magic you make up, or if you make up a school that is similar to someone else's, everything still works out. If your school is TOO similar, then I may suggest taking up on the other person's or possibly making yours a direct rival to the other person's.

If you make one that is basically the same with a different language, that is fine as well.

If you don't want a special language or chant for your magic, that's fine too. Though in this RP it is fact that, the more work you put into a spell, the more powerful the spell is. So using chants, symbols, or other things can improve upon the spell's power.

Now, let's make some magic!
/End David.

Couple schools of magic, for the fun of it. Feel free to use them for your character if you so choose!

1. Glänzende Kraft(Translation: Shining Force): This school of magic originates in Gebirgsland. True to its name, spells in this school of magic are both very flashy and very hard-hitting. The focus is almost exclusively on offensive spells, or spells that can be used in an offensive manner. Practioners of Glänzende Kraft rarely utilize any form of defensive magic, relying on outside sources for defense. Among the strongest spells in this school of magic are Feind-Hammer(a spell designed to kill infantry) and Unbegrenztheits-Schlag(an incredibly powerful anti-armor spell). High level Glänzende Kraft spells require incantations to be cast.

*Incantation examples:

***Translation: "To grant my enemies a quick death, I call you, Foe Hammer!"

***Translation: "To pierce armor, flesh, bone, soul, I call the greatest power. A strike to slay those who oppose me, a righteous judgement on my foe. I call you, INFINITY STRIKE!"

**Geschwindigkeit des Winds: "Im Namen des Lords der Wilden Jagd, rufe ich Sie, Geschwindigkeit des Winds an."

***Translation: "In the name of the Lord of the Wild Hunt, I call you, speed of the wind."

Translation: "I call upon the air itself to grant me the ability to slay my foes from the sky, I call you, Air Force!"

2. Force Sainte(Translation: Divine Might): The Force Sainte school of magic is often referred to as "Holy". Specifically, it involves the dispelling of demonic forces, or other "evil" entities. It's often used as a counter to darkness magic as well. A weak variant of healing magic is also included in this school of magic. These spells are not usually useful in direct combat, making combat magi who specialize in Force Sainte very rare. Spells include "Enfer Divin"(the most powerful Force Sainte spell, designed to be caustic to demonic entities) and "Lumière Calmante"(a basic healing spell)

*Incantation examples:

***Translation: "May these holy flames bathe my dark enemy in a cleansing light. May they destroy my foe, utterly, and leave nothing but ash. Now, fiend, burn in a Divine Inferno!"

***Translation: "May this light clean and heal your wounds. Soothing Light."

3. Alchemia(Translation: Alchemy): Alchemia is a unique school of magic. As opposed to many other techniques, which involve direct application of magic, Alchemia utilizes magic as a supplement to chemicals and to other methods. Magic is also used to aid the transmutation of matter into different forms of matter. Famously, the conversion of lead into gold, among other materials. Also included in Alchemia is the practice of making Homunculi; artificial humans. There are very few genuine spells in Alchemia. Mostly, there are ingredient lists. One of the few spells is "Trasmutazione Degli Elementi". While not useful in direct combat, it can be used to change one element into another. This can be used to make explosives on the fly.

*Incantation examples:

Trasmutazione Degli Elementi!"

***Translation: "With wit and intelligence, I reform this material to serve my purposes. The Transmutation of Elements!"

*Ingredient List:

**"Distrazione:

Ingredienti:

Due libbre di litio.

Un vaso di acqua.

Istruzioni:

***Translation: "Distraction:

Ingredients:

Two pounds of Lithium.

One jar of water.

Instructions:

Wrap lithium block in cloth, with water. When used, throw hard enough to shatter glass. Result should be satisfactory."

4. Nekromanteía(Translation: Necromancy): Nekromanteía is a a very dangerous variant of magic. While often associated with dark sorcery, this school of magic is not inherently dark. Nekromanteía is the magic of the reanimation of dead tissue. This cannot truly revive the dead, but instead uses the dead as a channel, "programming" them for simple tasks. These tasks can range from housework to combat. This school of magic also encompasses the rejuvenation of dead tissue, allowing organ transplants from long-dead bodies. The two most powerful spells of this school of magic are Stratós to̱n Nekró̱n(Mass Reanimation of nearby corpses as a basic fighting force) and Ananéo̱si̱ Pto̱máto̱n(Refreshes a corpse to the state it was at the moment the person died).

*Incantation examples:

**Stratós to̱n Nekró̱: "Ánodos, o stratós tou thanátou. Eno̱theíte kai poreía ypó tis diatagés mou, gia na skotó̱sei ton echthró mou. Apalláxoun ton kósmo apó ti̱n parousía tous, Stratós to̱n Nekró̱n!"

***Translation: "Rise, army of death. Unite and march under my command, to slay my foe. Rid the world of their presence, Army of the Dead!"

**Ananéo̱si̱ Pto̱máto̱n: "Máios af̱tó to só̱ma gia álli̱ mia forá na analávei ti̱ freskáda to̱n prósfato̱n thánato. Ananéo̱si̱ Pto̱máto̱n."

***Translation: "May this body once again take on the freshness of recent death. Refresh Cadaver."

No school yet, but:

**Leviathan: "In nomine destructio omnium qui contra me invoco tenebrosa nimis virtus tum nigro. Invoco potentia ab igne inferiori se meum hostem ferire ultioni et gloriae. May flere ipsi coeli et terra aperire se sub potestate justo. Di clamant ad terrorem vultus in Apocalypsi de hoc mundo nascitur sapien. Tandem cum omnes inimici mei jacentem mortuum, ut hoc redit in usum iterum donec requiem.

Sed Leviathan! Pluvia descendit in infernum inimicos meos!"

***Translation: "In the name of the destruction of all those who oppose me, I call upon a power darker then black. I call upon a power from the fires of hell itself, to strike down glorious vengeance upon my foe. May the heavens themselves weep, and the earth tear itself open under this power. May the gods cry out in terror as the visage of the apocalypse is born onto this world. And at last, when all my enemies lay dead, may this power return to its place of rest until I have use of it once again.

Now, Leviathan! Rain down hell upon my foes!"

Tiro Mancino: A school of magic that puts emphasis on using magic in small ways to gain an advantage over an opponent rather than large, flashy attacks. It states that while a caster should be capable of large; flashy spells; that they should be a last resort. It encourages the use of trickery and was originally designed to allow low-level mages to fight against those with a much higher power-level.

Dovah Draals(translation: Dragon Prayer) Dragon prayer is an ancient form of magic which uses tongue of dragon for incancations in control of elements and forces of nature. Since the magic is ancient, some of the knowledge of dragon tongue has been lost. The incantation at start already releases the elements after sixth word of dragon tongue as long as the sixth worded incantation contains the word of the element, but making the spell still too weak. the most powerful incantations employ the natures powers like causing avalances or thunderstorms which strike thunder at enemies, but take long. Some of the commonly used spells are "Yol Shul" ( A fireball which is hurled at toward enemies and will increase in strength with longer incantations.) and "Iiz Spaan" (A whirlwind of ice which spins around the spell user acting as protecting shield)

*Incantation examples:

**Yol Shul: Yol rul paal do norok yah vukein. Qolaas do shul, heim fah faasnu!

***Translation: Burn when enemy of fiercest seek combat. Herald of sun, forge for fearless

** Iiz Spaan: Wuld do Iiz, ro do ven, evenaar dwiin, daal aaz.

***Translation: Whirlwind of ice, balance of wind, extinguish steel, return mercy.

Animation: This school of magic does not refer to cartoons. Actually; it's true purpose is to bring that which resembles a living body to life. At it's weakest, it can cause a statue to become self aware for a few minutes. At it's strongest; it can cause a drawing of a person to literally jump off the page. However; all "life" created will only last as long as it is suplied with energy from the caster. Thus, if one wanted to, say, create a gollum, or a shabti; they'd have to find some sort way to provide them with a longer lasting power source.

Magic Versus Tech Magic Schools Empty Maximus Notitia

Post by Simply David Wed 14 Dec 2011, 1:04 pm

Magic School Name: Maximus Notitia

Language: Latin

General Description: Maximus Notitia is a school of magic specifically designed for speaking to Time and Space. By speaking to it, it is possible to convince it to do things for you. However Time and Space are stubborn, and it requires a great deal of mana to convert their decision into existence. Once Time and Space have been altered, it will return to normal when next possible. The longer you keep the magic conversion open, and the more mana you put into it, the longer or more powerful the effects become.

Unlike a few other schools of magic, each spell is variable. For each line you add, the more mana you are required. The reason for this is you are actually arguing with time and space, and you are winning the argument the more you fight. Therefore, you must only speak the lines you can supply mana for. The effects are all effects that will stop taking place as soon as you stop supplying mana for them.
For example, when slowing down time, for each line time slows down more until it is at a point where it may as well not even be moving, yet you're moving outside of time. Once you stop supplying the spell with mana, time returns to normal. For Time or Space Travel, ending up in a location different from your current Time or Space location puts strain on reality, and once you stop placing mana into the spell you will return to where you were when you cast. If you wish to use Space or Time to travel and not come back, you must put enough mana into the specific spell that you say every single line, after which reality is permanently altered so that you were now in the new location as opposed to your previous location.

To travel through Time and Space at the same time, you must alternate between lines saying each spell back and forth. It does not seem to matter which to start with, but tradition dictates you start with Time.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO THOSE WHO WISH TO GO DOWN THIS ROAD OF MAGIC! It is a magic that requires a level of knowledge and patience that generally requires mages to live for a very very long time before properly mastering. While some of the more minor effects are allowed, anything on the higher end of things will require that you be very old. However if you enjoy a long life this is one of the safest ways to prolong it! And with this magic you specifically will be able to live long enough that maybe one day you will master it.

Spell Examples: (each period represents a break, at which point you must either stop or go forward to strengthen your argument)

Tardus Tempus: Peto ut vos volo vestri tardus. Estis motum velox nimis. Precipio tibi quod tardius descendat nunc. Olim ut sese tuae fecerunt me dicunt esse motus. Sed consistunt nulla via vos dirigitur.

Translation:
Slow TIme: I request that you slow your speed. You are moving too fast. I command you to slow down upon this moment. Once I say that I am done you may resume your motion. Now halt, there is no further path for you at this moment.

(For the two following Travel Spells, each additional line increases the accuracy of the transportation. The third line makes it guaranteed to land correctly, the fourth line will seal you there without having to continue providing mana. No matter how many lines you said, say aloud in latin the coordinates of Space/Time where you are trying to reach.)

Praesent Tractus: Est locus ad quem ire vellent. Potes indicare mihi viam?

Translation:
Space Travel: There is a location to which I wish to travel. Can you show me the way? It would be best for all if you would bring me there to the correct place. I will be staying there for an extended time.

Nolite exspectare super me, quia nunquam redeant.

Translation:
Time Travel: I am in a hurry to not be late upon arrival. I must reach my destination in time. I am certain it would be best for you to get me there with haste. Do not wait up on me, for I may never come back.

Magitech: A subschool of Alchemy. The use of magic to enhance technology, or the use of technology to either focus, or magnify the power of magic. This school of magic was lost ten thousand years ago when, the city of Reichlich fell. According to legend; a monstrous abomination was created with the power of magitech that completely destroyed the civilization. Magitech, however, might actually be making a comeback; though the war between magic and technology seems to be delaying the return of this lost school.

Sacrifice:
Possibly the most painful school of magic to specialise in, this one offers pretty much limitless choice. If you can think of a magical ability or skill, this has a path to it, no matter how difficult or complex it would be to attain that ability through other means. Of course, it is by no means easy--the founder of the style, whoever it was, only wrote a manual telling you how to design the circles it relies on--and has massive potential to backfire.

The methods employed are deceptively simple: you need to draw two circles. One needs an unadorned ceramic bowl, the other whatever is being offered in exchange. Its name is basically a description, after all. The complexity of the circles' design is based on various factors--that with the sacrifice on what is being offered up, the one with the bowl on the desired skill, along with such things as your horoscope, the day of the month, and whether or not you're a virgin. Naturally, immortality and the like demand large sacrifices (an insufficient sacrifice will give the basics of an ability--you won't die from age, for example, but you WILL get steadily more decrepit until a breeze snaps your neck) and are so fiendishly complex that it's easy to make a mistake and render yourself a stunning corpse.

Once everything is in place--though a piece of paper with the items desired can be substituted for actually trying to offer up your capacity to love--it's merely a matter of chanting a simple ritual and drinking the substance that forms in the bowl. Easy enough, though calculating the circles is formed mostly of vague hints...

Possibly the most annoying thing is that you need to draw the circles in one's own blood. This is the main thing preventing you from reversing the trade: the amount of blood required for a reversal would take months to gain.
