Soul Eater Empty Soul Eater

Post by Simply David Wed 11 Jul 2012, 9:57 pm

In the sky, the sun laughed heartily as it blazed full force, bringing heat to the world.

In Death City, Nevada, the students of the Death Weapon Meister Academy hustled around to their classes, or to pick up missions, or to practice on their own, depending on what they were up to.

One said student was in class listening to Prof. Stein explain some of the finer points of soul detect. Crystal enjoyed lessons like these, one of those rare times where he isn't dissecting an animal. "Those poor defenseless creatures!" She'd say on such days, and end up having to sit out class. A couple or so of the various students had taken notice that the class was nearly over, and were already preparing to leave.

"Hmph, as if they have somewhere super important to be..." Crystal mumbled under her breath, but tried not to be loud enough for anyone to hear.

Lilith, on the other hand, was also getting impatient. She didn't exactly have anywhere to be, nor was she already trying to get ready to leave. Instead, she was paying perfect attention but she was just annoyed today, which was making her somewhat impatient to leave.

Another student, a certain Maria Eisern, had also decided to attend lecture. For all of five minutes, after which she heard that today's "practical lesson" was actually on soul detect, and therefor not on anything she should give a shit about.

"What a fucking pain..." she mumbled to herself, sipping sweet tea atop one of the DWMA's many spires. This was the third day in a row she'd just sat around with nothing to fucking do. She thought maybe this "practical lesson" would actually be something worth her fucking time (and not just another one of those freak doctor's dissections), and here it turns out it was on something she couldn't even do.

"Laaaaaaaame..."

In the same class, Jacqueline, or Jackie, sat next to her partner, Kim Diehl. While, as a weapon, she couldn't do soul detect, she listened to the lesson as well, just in case her Meister forget any parts of the lesson, which she sometimes tended to do. So there she was, a weapon diligently taking notes even as the class was starting to end.

It's a good thing her Meister was a good person, because her laziness was quite irritating at times.

On the other side of the room, Sarah had taken a few notes on Soul Detect, but she figured she was good enough at the basics to where just listening to the lesson would serve her fine. She had a hard time paying attention, though. She could feel some irritation coming off of her weapon's soul, and kept glancing over at her to see if she was alright.

She'd just ask her when they were headed out of the classroom. the lesson was almost over, anyway.

"Fucking pain? Why I would love to, so glad that you offered Ri~a," A voice said in Maria's ear. It would be easy to guess who it was, there was only one person who was brave enough or rather, twisted enough to try and tease her. The gray haired boy was still leaning down to her ear, his hands in his pocket with that ever present grin that hid his twisted nature. "Should we do it here or wait till we get home?"

----

As soon as class ended, a perky pink haired girl nearly tackled her Meister to the floor. She was brimming with excitement and hyperactivity. She was practically bouncing in place, "Come on Crystal, let's go get ice cream! Can we? Can we please?"

As an opposition to the hyper child, Kim leaned on her propped up hand, her eyes closed. It was quite blatant that she was taking a little nap while her partner was taking notes. She didn't seem to have all that interest in the lesson and it ended up boring her to sleep. She just didn't find all that much need in soul detecting. At least not for someone like her.

And finally, there was Kid. He had taken notes like the mature, intelligent boy that he was. Or so it had seemed. Instead he got stuck on the first letter. No matter how many times he wrote it, he could not make it perfect. He repeatedly erased and rewrote it, erased and rewrote it. It was like a neverending cycle. Even after class was over, he was still obsessing over that one little letter. "Wrong again, how can I be considered Death's son if I get conquered by one letter!? I have to make it perfect!" He said with his usual dramatics when obsessing over something as simple as writing a letter perfectly.

Crystal packed up her stuff in an orderly fashion, preparing her things in as kind and careful a manner as is possible. Or so she was about to do, until she was tackled to the floor by her weapon, "Ow..."

"Ice cream?" She asked, a smile forming despite herself, "Aren't you hyper enough?" she joked, but she actually fully intended on getting ice cream if that's what Dora wanted.

Lilith sighed as she put away her stuff, she knew the lesson was important but it was also almost unfair to the weapons who mostly didn't deal with that sort of thing. She was thoroughly annoyed at basically having wasted her own time when she could have been doing something like combat training, or maybe just out on a mission saving someone from some unspeakable horror...

A number of students, though, seemed to have enjoyed the lesson, apparently. If one were to look around, they'd notice certain stars at soul detecting looking quite pleased with themselves.

Jackie sighed as she finished up her notes just as class ended, slipping them in a folder, which she placed in her satchel. She couldn't expect Kim to keep track of notes she didn't even take, after all. Sighing, the weapon reached over and shook her meister's shoulder. "Kim. Class is over. It's time to wake up."

If the initial shaking wouldn't work, she'd tug her meister's ear a bit. Sometimes all it took was a little coaxing to get her to wake up. Other times.. she had to be a little less gentle, especially when Kim was very far off in dream-land.

Sarah reached over and patted Lilith on the soldier, giving her a friendly smile. "Don't look so blue, Lilith. Sure, it wasn't the most exciting lesson, but it may help us work together as a team!"

Sarah had a knack for reading her weapon, but more importantly she knew how Lilith thought, and despite her cutesy appearance, she knew she'd rather be out there fighting than sitting in a classroom. Truth be told, she would too, but they needed to get a mission first.

"Why don't we go look at the mission board and see if there's anything we can do, huh?" As they walked, she looked around at the other students, some of which who looked a little too cocky for their own good.

Liz glanced over at Kid and tried to suppress a grimace. 'Is he still working on the first letter?' She looked around the classroom and frowned as she saw everyone standing up to leave. "Kid, class is over. I think you can give up on taking any notes at this point."

Patti laughed loudly when she heard Kid complain. "Don't worry, Kid. I already took notes for you!" she said with a grin as she held up a piece of paper. Instead of anything about Soul Detect written on the paper, a crudely drawn picture of Stein talking in front of the class was there.

Oh no. She recognized the voice immediately. Maria grit her teeth, cursing his timing. Had she turned on the Bat signal or something? Smiling forcefully, she said, "That depends. Do you want people to hear your girly screaming, or would you rather keep that private?"

"Mm, public humiliation sounds so deliciously tempting," Leo replied with a lick of his lips. He wasn't just teasing either, he was completely and utterly serious, "I love the way you think, Ria~"

----

At the her Meister's question, Dora looked up at her with pitiful puppy dog eyes. She let out a small begging whine, very much like the dog she named herself after. "Pleeeeaaaaase?"

-----

The shaking had done little to wake Kim up. Only having her turn her head over mumbling something about five more minutes. It wasn't until her ear was getting tugged on that she finally bolted her eyes open with a painful yelp, "Ow! Ow! I'm up! I'm up! Let go Jackie!"

-----

"I refuse to leave until I perfect this letter! I cannot face father until I do, otherwise I am a shame of a reaper!" Kid said with his usual OCD derived over dramatics. He furiously erased the letter once again and busily went to writing the letter down again, only glancing up to see Patti's so called "notes". His pencil fell out of his hand as he gaped at the picture, "What is that disgusting asymmetrical... let me see that."

He took the paper from Patti and began 'fixing' it, so that it was perfectly symmetrical.

"Ah..." Maria said, mouth hanging open. Right, that didn't work on him...

She groaned. "Nevermind..."

Lilith smiled at her Meister. She was pretty good at figuring her out, wasn't she? That was mildly annoying, yet it was more comforting. She nodded, saying, "Yeah! Sounds like a good plan. We have to go help people by taking out monsters!" She smiled at her Meister, bag over shoulder, ready to go.

Crystal blinked at Dora once, a blank expression on her face, before suddenly reaching out and grabbing Dora, "SO CUUUUTE~! Of course we can go get Ice Cream! Lets go!" The show attracted at least a little attention from the other students, but this didn't matter to her as she pulled back from Dora to let her lead the way.

Jackie didn't release her meister's ear until she was certain she wouldn't fall back asleep. Letting out a sigh, she looked down at the pink-haired girl, having already stood up and put her satchel-bag over her shoulder. "Kim, class has been over for about ten minutes now. I wish you would at least stay awake if you weren't going to take notes."

She knew her master didn't think the lesson was important but.. still. This was school. Who knew when this information could come in handy some day?

--------------

Sarah smiled, glad to see her weapon perk up a bit. Slinging an arm around Lilith's shoulder, she gave her a short hug before releasing her as they approached the mission board. "Of course! That's why we came here right? We'll be heroes, I know it."

Her weapon sure had an obsession with helping people. Not that it bothered her, that was the point of all their schooling any way. Peerign at the board, there were plenty of missions to more far-off reaches of the world, orders to hunt down famous Kishin either by themselves or in a group, depending on the difficulty level.

"See any that catch your eye?"

(Welp, not waiting for Ran anymore)

Completely nonplussed by her lack of violent reaction, Leo went on speaking, "That reminds me Ria, should we take an assignment today, or go home and do what we discussed earlier~"

----

You could almost see the invisible tail wagging as Labradora was hugged by her Meister. "Ice cream~ Ice cream~!" The dog-like girl cheered in a sing songy tone of voice. There was two things Dora loved most in the world... no wait three. Getting pat on the head, ice cream, and playing Frisbee.

-----

"Yeah, yeah, I hear you," Kim said, waving her weapon off. She was used to her nagging by now. And usually it would go through one ear and out the other.

(Sorrysorrysorrysorry!)
Patti pouted when Kid took her notes and began changing them. Liz rolled her eyes, knowing that they'd be stuck here forever if he was serious about making her sister's drawing look symmetrical. "Uh, listen, Kid. Why can't you just take these papers with you? You can always fix them later?" She frowned, quickly imagining him becoming upset at carrying something so 'disgustingly assymetrical' around with him. "Ah, by that I mean.. You could fix it as we go? We don't have the time to be sitting around here. I have to redo my manicu-I mean, don't we have things to do?" she corrected herself, hoping that she'd be able to change his mind.
