"Welcome, you have been selected as candidates for ATLAS, the Association for the Termination of Lethal Abnormal Species. Ladies, gentlemen, the fate of the world rests on your shoulders. We need you to keep the existence of the creatures you'll be hunting quiet, as knowing that magic, dragons and demons are real could cause widespread panic or worse.

Your task, should you accept our offer, will be to fight off a legion of…for lack of a better term, monsters. You will be trained and armed for this task and when you're done, you will be appropriately compensated, of course. For one month's work, you will be given enough money to live comfortably for the remainder of the year.

While the enemy army is large, it appears the "gates" they use to access our world have a limit on how many they can transport. If our calculations are correct, you should have no trouble handling any of the invading forces…Or rather, that's what I'd say in any other year. I'd like you all to meet Inoue Daisuke."

"With his abilities, we believe that you can take the fight to the monsters in their own world and make this the last year anyone has to deal with them. Naturally, as this is a great deal more dangerous than the usual level of work we'd ask for, your payments will be greater too. So, what do you say?"

Despite the name, this RP is going to be different to Fate/Unlocked Aberration.

So first up, a few basic rules of the setting:
  • Magic is not common knowledge and there are dire consequences for anyone that tries to change this.
  • Magic is usually passed down through a family's bloodline.
  • The more types of magic a mage knows, the weaker they are. So if your character is the magical equivalent of a railgun, they probably only have one or two spells.
  • "SS" ranked abilities on humans are considered impossible from an in-universe standpoint. In practice, they're a sign that the person has some rather strong "inheritance" from a famous hero or has a demon or some other such creature in their ancestry. Of course, they'd still need to train to reach this rank.
  • The characters don't necessarily come from the same town, as the organization getting these characters together travels a fair bit to find the best of the best.
  • Due to the way the portals work, daytime will be almost entirely combat free, so if people want to focus on character interaction, there will be plenty of time.
  • This isn't a Fate RP, while popular embellishments of a historical figure's feats (eg, Tsubame Gaeshi) are acceptable, taking Nasu-level liberties with them will lead to rejection.


Also, while there are stats, they won't come into play too heavily, it's...basically just so I know where your characters are in terms of certain things. Also, they work somewhat differently to the ones in Fate/Stay Night, for example, strength would be:

It's indestructible, forged from a mighty metal which resembles gold but totally isn't gold, and true to its name, can bind beings of divine origin. The more divine, the better.

Skills: He's really good with a sword. One of the best the shinsengumi had to offer. Also a fast learner, having received the Tennen Rishin Ryu's Menkyo Kaiden (a license that showed that he had fully mastered everything within the school, something that normally requires 30 years of experience) by the age of 18. He is a good teacher, although this brings out a far stricter side of his personality.

Powers:
Mumyo-ken – Sandanzuki: Okita's most famous sword fighting technique. When used, Mumyo-ken renders the blade of his katana temporarily invisible, making evading or blocking difficult. If that weren't hard enough, the stabbing motion of this technique seems to warp space to strike at the opponent's throat and both of their shoulders simultaneously.

Background: There's not much to say about her past. She was born to loving parents, grew up, coasted through school and was recently approached to join ATLAS.

Powers: Ai doesn't know any spells. Instead, she relies on a power that members of her family are born with that allows her to copy any spell she sees. Unfortunately, as she's such a slacker, Ai hasn't bothered training this ability at all and as such she can only fire off any spell she copies once and if she doesn't use it within 48 hours, it is gone.

Items and Weapons: Her glasses. Not really magical, but noteworthy in that she might as well be blind without them.

Background: Momoko is the daughter of two members of ATLAS, a scientist and a now retired member of the combat forces. All through her life, her science obsessed mother has used her as a guinea pig for one of her experiments. "What does this 'shadestone' we found in the monster world do?" Well, it seems that overexposure to the the dark mist it gives off has some strange effects on a girl. It turned one of her eyes pink (a fact she is very sensitive about) and appears to have given her access to a rather strange form of shadow manipulating magic. However other than that, it doesn't seem to have had a negative impact on her. Well…sometimes she feels a little ill if she's away from it for too long, but that's just a coincidence, right?

Skills: Able to burn down a house with any attempt to make food. Yes, even cereal or a sandwich. Also she's got shadow and cloning magic.

Powers: Momoko has a strange ability. She can manipulate shadows. This is usually used to create a bond between a person and their shadow that causes anything that hits the shadow to affect the corresponding part of the body, an ability that is activated by exerting a small amount of mana on the target while focusing on it with her pink eye. In addition, she can transform her own shadow into physical items, generally either a sword that she uses as a last resort when she runs out of knives (which has greater cutting power than a regular sword due to its magical and not-entirely-physical nature) or a suit of armour (or rather, a black dress that seems to be highly resistant to physical attacks). It shouldn't come as a surprise that while she’s using this ability, her shadow seems to disappear. The size and durability of the items she can create increases in times/locations where shadows are longer.

In addition, her father trained her in some magic. Specifically, cloning magic. Unfortunately, she wasn't particularly good at it and can only create miniature versions of herself. That said, a small army of tiny girls with swords that can cut through almost any non-magical matter is still potentially dangerous, even if they are only six inches tall. She can only summon up to ten of these clones at a time and feels immense strain after four. She feels any strong sensation her clones feel, although unlike her shadow magic, this is just the pain, not the injuries themselves. Finally, she can temporarily transfer her consciousness to one of the clones to gain total control over it.

Items and Weapons: She usually carries about a dozen throwing knives when she goes into combat.

Background: His power is from his bloodline, on his father's side. The family dates back to ancient times where they made deals with the gods to be forever connected to the word "Hero". As such, the power to connect to heroes of old now exists within Daisuke who was taught from a young age how to use it. Other than his training, nothing notable until he was found by ATLAS and his parents sent him to help. He was explicitly told to stay out of the main combat however.

Skills: Healing and empowerment magic. He only learned the most basic forms of these types of magic so far, but the reason he's taught is for the purpose of one day being able to make the most of his hero summons when the time comes. For now, he can at best give half a rank up to a physical stat, and give slow but effective healing. Or at least, that would be the case without the boost in mana. He can give a half rank up several times, and to multiple people, and to more than just one thing. His healing is also faster.

Powers: His naturally given ability to summon heroes, and one of the focal points of why this war should be "The Last One". He has tattoos on his body that represent how many times he can call upon famous heroes from the past or myth. When summoned, they have the full knowledge of their lives as if they had never died, and a decent amount of knowledge about the modern day, or at least it's enough that they won't receive culture shock. They also are summoned with knowledge of the summoner's intention, which when hostile the hero gets summoned under a berserk mindframe and will only perform an attack or two before having to leave. When not hostile, they can be summoned for discussion, which can be useful for learning the truth about the past. Ordinarily, this means he can only summon one hero per use, and for a short duration, and only one use a day due to mana restrictions.

The phenomenon bringing the monsters to our world, however... it has caused a change. For one time only, he can perform a special ritual that calls upon the use of the portals to turn a single temporary summon into multiple near permanent summons. The permanence can only be accomplished if they succeed in what the summoner intended on them doing, which in this case is fighting off the monsters and basically saving the world from having to deal with them ever again. Tapping into this ritual is what gave him his mana boost, though it's theorized he'll lose the mana boost at the end of this "War". An unfortunate side effect of the portals, however, is that he cannot control what hero he summons until they're gone.

Items and Weapons: Nothing important.

Heroic Relics: None. Unless you want to count the heroes themselves? :3

Background: A man born with an absolutely terrible stutter, Benjirou never really liked talking to anyone. He was always afraid he'd embarrass himself, or be made fun of. He could only really talk comfortably around people he knew and trusted, and even then he'd stutter. So, as a result, Benjirou naturally took the course in life that led to talking to people the least. Somewhere down the road, he decided that meant "sniper". After all, it made sense. He was already good at aiming, and people don't tend to talk to you when you have a gun that's bigger than they are. His skills were eventually recognized by ATLAS, and he was formally brought aboard, where his reputation preceded him and did a very good job of shutting people the fuck up.

Skills: He specializes in empowerment magic, which he uses to enhance his already impressive reflexes and eyesight, as well as improve the performance of his rifles, exacerbating the effects of the various ammunitions he employs. They are, in order:
  • Regular: Just a normal bullet. A normal, 20mm Vulcan bullet. Unenhanced, it fucks cars and skulls. Enhanced, it can penetrate most any manmade structure with impunity, and leaves a hole the size of basketball.

  • Hollow point: For when things need to get messy. Best used on squishy targets, hollow point rounds focus less on penetration, and more on turning the enemy's insides into a steaming pile of spaghetti carbonara. Enhanced... you really don't want to know. Just trust me on this, you don't.

  • Armor-piercing: Used especially for confronting heavily armored targets and vehicles, as well as piercing barriers. Enhanced, it can penetrate the hide of most monsters, leaving an equally large exit wound as the first.

  • Saboted: High velocity round used when accuracy is key. Provides increased penetration (though not as much as armor piercing) and will reach the target faster. Enhanced, its speed is great enough to cross continents before dropping.

  • Incendiary: Your standard incendiary round, used for lighting flammable targets and penetrating soft, organic substances and tissue with extreme prejudice. Enhanced, it creates a firestorm like effect, setting the target and most everything around it ablaze, making the round equivalent to a firebomb mixed with a bullet.

  • Explosive: Put simply, "everything go big boom". Used when subtlety is either optional, or not an option at all. What this does enhanced doesn't really need to be said, except that things explode. A lot of things.


Items and Weapons: Two Anzio 20mm rifles and a lot of ammo. Don't ask me how he smuggled them into the country, ATLAS did it. He also wears a gas mask on the job to add to his image.

Background: Born on the streets, found in a nun's backyard, then adopted by said nun. Learned the secrets of the Nuns in England by the age of 14, and had eventually started training to take out evil spirits and even the occasional human villain. Was traveling the world when she was found, and decided to help out ATLAS.
(Blah, having wrote this before I don't feel like writing the whole damn story again. >.< Maybe eventually.)

Skills: Cooking, Cleaning, taking care of children, surviving on her own, gymnastics, can recite just about any verse from the bible, excellent aim with a bow, skilled use of "Scriptures", and skilled use in "NUN" her cross-shaped artillery weapon turned melee weapon.

Powers: "Holy Flames", a magic passed down by nuns for destroying evil with the heat of their sins. While useless on any human, does better-than-normal fire damage to a demon or monster. It requires a focus, however, and the focus must take the shape of a cross. While most nuns settle for small necklaces that shoot fireballs, Elizabeth has taken up the weapon "NUN" and uses it as an incredibly powerful melee weapon of flaming fury, that can also shoot fire a short distance like a flamethrower. NUN was not intended to be used in this fashion, and is in fact a weapon created by her foster mother with the purpose of blasting a massive beam of holy destruction. This beam, however, will destroy anything that is not a human when fired. The direct force can tear through concrete easily, but drains the user of a great deal of energy, and can only be fired at most three times in any one 24 hour period.

Items and Weapons: NUN as mentioned above, some money, and a necklace with a crucifix upon it, which can also be used for focusing her Holy Flames.

Heroic Relics: Nein.

Appearance: AHH! I'm falling! Wait, I know what to do!

Background: Kokoro's mother was never strict with her, except when teaching magic. The two of them would go out, have fun, live a happy life all the time. But at night, Kokoro would be trained by her mother constantly, being worked hard whenever possible, to make sure she reaches her potential as a mage. Was found by ATLAS and her mother approved of letting her go, but she herself was too old to get involved, so Kokoro went alone.

Skills: Proficient in her form of magic.

Powers: Makes use of boundaries, barriers, and binds. She can hold down just about anything... or so she'll claim. She's obviously never dealt with threats larger than a real world animal, so it'll take some getting used to to start holding down heroes and monsters. Her barriers are strong enough to hold off mid level spells easy, and will shatter when faced with higher level spells, though it will stop one. If a barrier of hers shatters, she will be in a lot of pain for a few moments, and therefore won't be able to focus enough to do much of anything. When facing the physical, it is very difficult for something to break her barriers, though one example of it breaking would be that time she was told to stop a diesel truck that was moving thirty miles an hour...

Her boundaries, though, tend to be near flawless in design, allowing her "Effects" to take place easily. The boundaries can take a while to establish, and their effects can include (Limited to one per boundary, but she can establish multiple boundaries overlapping): "No action without me knowing", "Do not step on the grass", "Don't insult someone's height", "Gravity is annoying, so ignore it", and "Everyone is beautiful", just to name a few.

Items and Weapons: A staff of magical power, capable of drawing her boundaries for her, holding a barrier up for her to let her do something else with her hands, or just a good whacking stick (Which results in the one whacked being tied up by magical binds).

Heroic Relics: None

Background: Kameyo was born into a family with declining magical potential. When she was much younger, she had barely any ability to practice spells of any kind. However, she did not allow this to hinder her. Even at a young age, she got her mother to help her research an obscure theory: That the quality of remaining magical potential could be increased with practice. And practice she did. However, she remained incapable of preforming many spells, let alone anything outside of her family's natural affinity for electromagnetism. However, the quality of her magic allowed her to do something that the Hoshino family had been incapable of doing for centuries: Preform advanced electromagnetic spellwork, allowing her to create a magical railgun. This, and light variations thereof, have become her only magical abilities. Her extremely high offensive potential even at her relatively young age made her a candidate to join ATLAS, which she gladly accepted. She earned the "Gold Gunner" nickname due to both her blonde hair and the color of her magic, as well as her Railgun spell.

Skills: Skilled in very little magic, aside from electromagnetism-based spells. These spells far exceed normal levels, allowing her to replicate the effects of a railgun, giving her extremely lethal offensive capabilities as long as there is anything subject to electromagnetism in the area. However, she has little to no abilities otherwise.

Powers: Spells include mobility spells(utilizing electromagnetism to traverse metal structures by simply walking up them, for example), but her most dangerous spell is her Railgun. The spell is extremely dangerous, allowing her to turn even a coin into a deadly projectile. Her Railgun spell is what gave her the nickname "Gold Gunner".

Items and Weapons: Very little, though she often stores various small metal objects on her person.

Skills: Skilled fist fighter. Proficient with spears and swords alike, but most proficient is his use of Slings that shoot stone. While one could mock this combat style, it is in fact the very thing he used to take out the eye of Balor. He also has amazing riding ability and is a generally sociable person.

Powers: He is an expert in the use of the 18 original runes. However, while he may be able to manipulate and conjur elements of multiple kinds, this is far and away from anything he'd normally do. In fact, the only rune he's ever made use of in combat is the fire rune to make his spear catch on fire.

Items and Weapons: His gloves has those spikes, and he has a sling that he can summon and a basically endless supply of "Magic stones" similar to the one he used to take out Balor's eye with. All these stones do on their own is increase force to the point that it's like a bullet.

Heroic Relics:
Gae Assail: Pictured below. It has the effect that when a certain word is called out, it will perfectly hit it's mark with magically guided aim, and with another word fly back to Lugh's hand. It has incredible piercing potential.
Spoiler:
Fragarach: A sword that grants the bearer power over wind, can cut "Any barrier", and can force a person to tell the truth by holding it to their throat.

(I think I'm going to assume that using either one costs mana, though I also think that that's the goal with Heroic Relics anyway)

Other: Lugh can summon these at will similar to how any of the heroes can simply materialize their weapons.

Skills:
Swordplay: Arthur is more than amazing with a sword. Just watch yourself when you're fighting against him.
Healing Factor: Provided by Excalibur's scabbard, his body heals when it takes injury, no matter what it is.

Heroic Relics:
Clarent: The Sword in the Stone that Arthur pulled to become the King of Britain. It's little more than an indestructible sword. It's used mosty for 'knighting' and rituals of the like.
Excalibur: The holy sword that King Arthur is famous for. It's a holy blade capable of blinding the foe as King Arthur cuts them to pieces.
Carnwennan: A special dagger only owned by King Arthur. It provides him with invisibility.
Rhongomyniad: A spear once used to slice the Very Black Witch in half. Has Holy properties that are capable of dispelling all evil forces, like that of Excalibur.
Excalibur's Scabbard (Avalon?): The scabbard of Excalibur that grants the holder immortality. The user can't be killed by blood-loss or heavy wounds.
