There, you stand, Saya Taiyou, in front of the Shrine Gates. Today was a fine day for worship. You stand there with a smile on your face. Worshippers from the village come in and pay their respects to the Sun Goddess Amaterasu. You were proud. Time passes, and eventually everyone who's everyone goes home. A good hour, wouldn't you know?

"I hope she's happy." you smile and look up to the sky. A combination of joy and sorrow. You haven't seen her, yet your her Shrine Maiden. She must be happy, at least.

"Ahaha..." a boy with black hair starts to sweep.

"Heitaro? What are you doing? I can do that today, you don't have to." you say as you walk forward, taking the broom by the handle.

"No no.. it's fine. I have to repay you, after all."

"For what? Letting a youkai live in the shrine? It's my duty as a Shrine Maiden. You don't have to do my job for me." you narrow your eyes and firmly grip the broom.

"... Let me, please?" Heitaro pleads to you with a smile on his face.

"If you're going to be stubborn, fine, you do it. I'm going into town." you turn to leave the boy where he stands. Instead, he waves you off without complaint. Well, you trust him to do a good job, so no harm there. The lay out of the village of Taiyou is pretty simple. The shrine is connected to a stairway that leads into the main district. So, your shrine is literally the center attraction in the village. Beneficial for you in all ways. Some say your shrine is the nicest in the land, even.

"Hmhmhm..." you hum to yourself as you begin your long journey down the steps. Not really long at all. In five minutes you're in the middle of a busy street. The shrine is THAT close.

"Saya-chan!" one of the neighborhood boys runs forward, grabbing at your leg.

"W-what is it?" you reply with a sincere smile.

"Eri-chan is bullying me!" the boy pleads, pulling at your leg. You were seventeen, and Eri the boy spoke of looks about -- well, you look up to find out. There she stands, a black haired ten year old. "Sigh..."

"SAYA-CHAN!" he yanks your leg again.

It was starting to get annoying.

"Eri-chan!" you then move on over to the young girl. She was bullying the little kid, which just didn't sit right with you. Since their parents were nowhere to be seen, you take discipline into your own hands. You had your naginata on your back, but no, you had to settle for a flick on the head. You pull your finger back and then fire.

"Ah!" the young Eri takes a step back and puts a hand on her forehead. "W-why did you do that?"

"You were bullying that little kid, weren't you?" you say, accusing her of the crime. She looks to the small boy and then back to you. "T-that little weasel!" she takes a step forward but you take her by the arm.

"Wait, what's going on?" you feel the need to ask.

"That's my little brother! I ate his rice ball and now he made you hit me!" the girl was about to burst into tears. Although, ones of anger or sorrow were both on the table. You look to the little boy and back to the girl.

You have the sudden urge to go find a bunny, give it to them, and then drop kick the kids for no reason. Oh well, the thought subsides. The easiest solution then comes to mind. A deep sigh of regret as you place one hand on Eri's head. "Please, don't take another kids food like that." you then move on over to the young boy. "You shouldn't have used me to punish your sister."

"Y-yes m'am..." the boy walks forward and then takes a good glance at your arm-pits. He stares and stares.

"Takeru!" Emi says as she grabs onto the boy's wrist. The boy was staring at your armpits. Well, at least it appealed to som- wait, what were you thinking? You shake your head from left to right.

"I'm sorry for hitting you to, Eri-chan." you smile and bow. "I'm sorry."

"It's okay.. it's Takeru's fault to begin with." she grips her brother's hand harder. "I'm going to tell mom and you're going to get in trouble!" she says as she pulls Takeru away. Now with that done, you move yourself through out the village.

You then move yourself through out the village. And then, in the market district, you see a familiar face.

Red eyes, soft gray hair and a black head-dress. Mary Shepard. The girl that preaches about some true 'God' or another, but you already knew that was Amaterasu.

No, it was best just to greet her as a neighbor. She was just a girl trying to teach others a new faith, although as weak as its following is. "Mary!" you wave as you approach the young Shrine Ma-... Priestess. "How are you today?" a warm smile.

"I'm doing just fine, thank you, Saya." Mary says as she keeps a hold of a brown paper bag. It's contents? You really have no clue. Mary, the same as ever, or at least from what you've seen of her.

"Oh, I've been meaning to ask, what's your favorite food?" you lean closer to get a better look at the young girl's face.

"Carbonara." Mary replies, her facial expression unchanging. Unknown to you, she had your same mentality. Serious about their religion and a no-nonsense sort of attitude. Well, you lack the latter, but still.

"That's spaghetti or something isn't it?"

Mary responds with a nod.

"I've been meaning to ask there, Maria." you begin to ask the question that's been on your mind for a bit. "Can we have dinner at your church? I've been meaning to visit it, but my own job gets in the way of that so... can we do that today? I can cook up some food and Heitaro and I will be there in a jiff." you smile a smile that'd be really hard to refuse.

"I see no problems with that, Saya." she accepts, which is something you don't expect. "I'll be on my way then, it was nice talking to you." you don't know how much truth are in those words, but the Priestess is on her way and out of sight soon enough. You sigh and then turn away.

The worshippers ate a lot of food today... and sometimes you think they just come for the food, but the donations from the people are more than enough to pay for it. Strange how it goes around like that. You sigh once again and look back toward the shrine. "Hope you're having fun Heitaro." and with that, you move further into town.

Now that dinner plans were made with Maria, you could go check out the forest surrounding the village. Youkai activity had been increasing lately, for some odd reason. What did they often do? Antagonize villagers coming and going to the village. At least they weren't like Heitaro's family, actually devouring people. But.. you handled that with swift judgement. Hopefully an event like that doesn't happen again. As you walk, Taiyou Lake comes into view. "Huh.. clear as ever." you smile as you walk into the clearing.

"Hahaha!" there was someone laughing. Suddenly the temperature dropped. A faint chill runs up your back. What was going on? "Quit running frog!" another blue glow and a patch of the pond was instantly ice, as was the retreating frog. "Don't run from me, eye'm the strongest!" an ice fairy smiles as she stands with pride.

She really wasn't bothering anything. The ice fary just seems to be minding her own business and you're looking for youkai, which.. she wasn't.
