Medieval RP: The kingdoms of Ardania and Derangia

In the magical land of Ardania, the Knights are strong, the Wizards intelligent, and the Jesters even manage to be funny! Ardania makes its living off of its amazing and bountiful farms, and its ability to defend itself has kept it at peace for a long time. They say the best wine comes from Ardania.

Lately, however, a dark evil has been forming over the neighboring kingdom of Derangia, home of the dragons. It seems to be preparing for an attack, and so Ardania has been preparing in defense.

Many people are scared of the dragons, however, saying that they can overpower the armies. But the Royalty have insited that the knights and wizards are powerful enough, and to be safe they've hired mercenaries, including Barbarians and Myrmadons.

In the castle, the Princess was just finishing her class on Ballet.

The knights were likely just finishing their training as well...

Alice, diligent as ever, had finished most of her own chores and had ordered the other maids to complete their own, having taken on the role of 'Head Maid' in a way from her 'mother', the woman who took care of her. She was now waiting outside the dance studio of the castle, where the Princess was certain to be finishing her Ballet lessons by now. Alice stood by the door, eyes closed as she calmly waited, hands clasped in front of her.

She wasn't wearing her armor at the moment, having left her Knight training earlier than the others so she could shower and get back to her maid duties in time to accompany the princess wherever she wished to go.

Candy took in a deep breathe as she finished her ballet practice.

"Alright, until next time dear," Said the tall lanky man as he spun out of the room. Candy giggled and skipped to the door.

She opened it and found Alice standing there, waiting for her. She gasped, and smiled brightly, "Alice! I didn't expect you to be here!" She laughed and jumped forward giving her a big hug.

There was nobody around right now, so it was ok to be a little friendly. After all, they've known eachother for years and were great friends.

Alice smiled gently at the princess, amused by her reaction. Cand- ehm, the princess always had such exaggerated reactions to things, displaying her emotions without fear. It was both cute and enviable. "My training finished early, so of course I would return to your side, my princess." Even if they were close friends, she still treated her like royalty, with the utmost respect and utter subservience.

At the hug, she blushed a bit and glanced around, checking that no one was around. It was improper for a maid to hug her princess, even if it was the princess who instigated it, so while she enjoyed the affection, it made her uneasy, and it made a fluttering feeling attack her stomach. She gently wrapped one arm around the princess, smiling down at her. "It's good to see you too, my princess. Did practice go well?"

Candy let go and smiled up, "Yeah. Ballet is fun, and Mr. Okama said I'm getting much better!" She held her hands behind her back and straightened herself out, to look more proper.

Alice released her princess and took a step back, keeping a respectful distance between herself and the other girl, not wanting to accidentally imply anything should someone pass by.

"You certainly do have the correct posture for a ballerina, my princess. It suits you." She chuckled softly at the princesses' antics. Sometimes she wished they were of the same social standing, so she could act more openly friendly with her.. but this was fine too. "My princess, is there anywhere you wish to go? I am free to escort you for the rest of the day."

Candy took on a thoughtful look as she held her chin in thought. "Hm... Oh! I wanna see the town~ I haven't been out of the castle in a week at least!" She looked excited. She always enjoyed going to town to look at the shops and people.

Usually she went in a carriage with a fully armed guard, but sometimes she could convince Alice to take her out in a simple disquise, with the right persuasion.

Alice sighed. She knew the way this was going to go before it even started.. but she still had to try. "My princess, you know that it is far too dangerous for just you and I go go out on the town. Someone could try to harm you, or even kill you."

Alice crossed her arms against her chest and attempted to look firm, like a stern mother. "I cannot allow you to put yourself in harms way like that. I apologise."

Candy pouted, "Aww, come on~ We've done it before and didn't get hurt~"

She had big eyes and her lip quivered just right. She's perfected this to an artform...

Alice sighed and covered her face with her hand. She knew when she was beaten, and the princess knew full well she couldn't resist that face. She lowered her hand from her face and half-smiled, shaking her head. "Alright, but only for a little while. You win this round, my princess. Let's get you disguised, shall we?"

With all the other servants working, it wasn't hard to lead Candy out of the castle and into the lodging area for the servants. She took her into her own room. "As per usual, I have the set of commoner's clothes you like to wear in the drawer." As she spoke, she walked over to a wardrobe and opened it, revealing a mannequin with her armor on it. Removing the armor, she put it on herself, sliding her sword into the scabbard on her hip and deciding to leave her shield here.

Candy smiled in triumph, "Alright~"

When she reached the servant's quarters, she grabbed the clothes and dashed into another room so they could both get dressed, even though she knew Alice was already pretty much dressed.

When she came out, she smiled a big cat-like grin and said, "Well, lets go my knight~" She grabbed Alice's arm in her own, and let Alice lead the way to the town.

Alice couldn't help but smirk at the grin that Candy had on her face. She was enjoying this far too much.. even though she had lost count at the amount of times the princess had convinced her to let the two of them go out on the town by themselves. She knew her whole maid outfit plus armor plus sword wasn't very subtle.. but she'd rather be more prepared than subtle.

"Of course, my princess." Alice linked arms with her incognito princess, smiling as she led her out of the servants quarters and through one of the many secret escape tunnels around the compound, which led to just outside the main down. Still keeping her arm linked with Candy's, she walked into the town, pausing as a few children scampering in front of them.

"Lively as ever."

Candy saw the children, and resisted the urge to run with them. She knew she had to stay near Alice.

Suddenly a carriage's horse seemed to be spooked by something and started running out of control, straight for the children.

Candy gasped, "Alice! Do something!" She seemed horrified.

Alice reacted instantly to the command, sprinting out in front of the carriage and scooping up the children. She leaped out of the way and flipped in the air, landing hard on her back out of the path of the carriage, but letting out a cry of pain as one of the wheels ran over her leg. Setting the children down, she stood and winced in pain, testing her leg. It wasn't broken, but it was sore as all hell.

Patting the kids on the head, Alice half-limped half-chased down the carriage, grabbing the back of it and bracing herself, forcing it to stop with her abnormal strength. Breathing a little hand, Alice wiped some sweat off of her head with the back of her hand before she went back over to Candy.

"There we are."

Candy sighed in relief, but was very worried about Alice. She winced when the carriage ran her over.

"I-I'm sorry, I should have put up a force field or something... Hang on, I'll fix your leg," She was panicking a little as she created a light that surrounded Alice's leg, but it shimmered out a bit and failed.

She held back a curse since it was unladylike, and took a deep breath, "I'm sorry Alice. I'll do it right this time," She said. She was trembling all over.

Sir Pollinore approached the queen's throne room nervously; she wasn't sure why she was summoned. There was a rather silly rumor that she was to become the queen's personal knight; as the queen had quite enjoyed her performance in the tournament.

She thought the rumor was silly because surely the queen wouldn't want a personal knight who'd only been in one battle, killed only one dragon, and had won only one tournament.

"Y-you wanted to see me, m'lady?" she asked.

"My princess." Alice gently spoke to her, her voice soft to prevent anyone who wasn't standing right next to them from overhearing. Reaching out to her, gently placing both hands on her upper arms. "Please, try to relax. there is no need to get yourself so worked up like this.. it is merely my leg, and it is not broken, merely sore." She gave her a comforting smile, slightly rubbing one arm before removing her hands.

Reaching down, she touched her own leg, forcing herself not to wince as she checked it out. "I will have a bruise, but that is the extent of the damage, and I can ignore something like this with willpower alone." Since beating things up and ignoring pain were the only things she was good at, besides maid-work, she wasn't going to let something as small as this slow her down.

As she was talking, the children proceeded to run over and cling to her legs, saying thinks like: "Thank you, lady!" and "Wooah! You stopped that thing by yourself! You're so cool!" Alice glanced down at the children, then back up at the princess, her expression.. uncomfortable.

Candy sighed out and calmed herself, "Still, I don't want... you... to hurt..." As she spoke the children came up and spoke right over her.

She huffed out, feeling a little more confident, and quietly cast the spell to make her leg feel better. THen she grabbed Alice's hand, "Come on, let's lose these kids," She said, pulling her through an alley and up another street on the other side.

"What a lovely couple," said Lily, from directly behind Candy.

Alice noticed instantly that her leg felt better, and looked up from where she had been glancing at the children again to smile at Candy. "Thank you, my prin- ah!" She wasn't expecting to be suddenly pulled forward, but she just chuckled and went along with it, waving 'bye to the children as they were forced to let go of her.

Following along with her princess, she looked at their connected hands. Than goodness the princess was in her street clothes, for a maid holding her princess' hand like this would be quite taboo. At least, she thought so, and was certain others would too. Her thoughts where interrupted, though, when she heard a voice and she reacted swiftly. She stepped in between the princess and the other person, her face right in their face.

She relaxed, though, when she saw who it was. The jester. "Oh, it's just you, Lily. You shouldn't sneak up on people.. or make undue assumptions. I may draw my sword and my hand may slip." Even as she made the threat, she was smirking slightly, to show she was just messing around.

Candy peeked around Alice. She saw it was the jester, and smiled brightly.

She then put her finger on her lips, signifying that she's incognito, and should not be revealed.

Lily smiled.

"Careful where your hand slips too, Lady Alice," she said, winking.

Alice was used to the jester's perverted jokes, and yet they still made her blush. Sighing, she rubbed the side of her head, already starting to develop a headache. She moved out of the princesses' way, still looking at the jester.

"What are you doing out on the town, Lily? Did the queen get bored?"

Sir Pollinor was met at the door by a finally dressed young man. He was one of the Queen's many cousins and the one she had appointed as her advisor. He had short pink hair the same shade as the Queen's and red eyes. "Ahem... I am sorry, Sir Pollinore but the Queen is currently.... entertaining some guests. She has sent me to inform you of the quest she was prepared for you to prove your worth to be her personal guard."

He then searched his finely woven robes and pulled out a scroll, handing it to the knight, "This parchment here will have all the information you'll need for your journey, good luck brave knight and may your journey be fruitful."

Lyra was walking down the street, looking over a list of items. She was running low on food and she'd need to use her five finger discount to get some more. She was not paying attention to where she was going and ended up bumping into someone. She fell back with 'umph', landing on her behind.

"Ow...." She mutter a curse under her breath then looked up to see the person who dared bumped into her. She suddenly bit back any words as she looked up at Candy. "Uhhh.... I-I... I'm sorry..."

Candy felt a bump hit her and she would have fallen over but she grabbed onto Alice's arm, and then turned around, "Hm? Oh, it's ok..." She was surprised at the cuteness of the one in front of her...

"Are you... an elf?" She asked, tilting her head a little. She'd only seen them in various parades or that one time when one had met with her mother. This was the closest she'd ever been to one.

"The queen needs me for a quest...a quest she entrusted to me and me alone...." said Sir Pollinore. "I will not let the queen down!"

"No, rather, I get bored, cooped up in the castle all day!" said Lily.

"You have the attention span of a gnat anywa-" Alice paused in mid-sentence as she felt Candy stagger forward a bit and grab onto her arm. Whipping around, she looked down and saw and elf sitting down in front of the princess, apparently having bumped into her. obviously, this set Alice off.. as she didn't known if this person was carrying a weapon or had tried to use the 'bump-and-take' method to steal from the princess.

Drawing her sword, she pointed it down at the elf, her eyes hard as she got into watchdog mode. "Be careful where you walk, elf. You best not have harmed her or stolen anything."

"Hmph," Lyra frowned at the maid in front of her. Muttering something insulting in elven, she spoke up to the maid, "Me? A common thief? I'm a great warrior sent by my tribe to locate the princess and protect her!"

She lied naturally, hoping it would impress the beautiful young woman she had bumped into.

Polly rode her warhorse out of the castle, and headed towards town.

"My first stop shall be to go to the library...apparently theres a map hidden in a book of poems there..." she said.

Alice sputtered in shock, looking at the elf, lowering her sword a bit. P-Protect the princess?! Somehow I doubt that. That's my j- .. I mean, the princess has her royal guards and a bodyguard.. she has no need for a random elf!"

She glared down at the shorter girl, sheathing her sword and crossing her arms against her chest. She disliked this one already.
