TV Tropes RP aka the most generic yet Genre Savvy RP ever made - Character Creator

I decided to make a role play that was generic. I have no idea what to do for story beyond 'Competent Evil Overlord attempts world Domination'.

Basically we make characters based off the Five-Man Band very specifically, with minor things to make them unique.

Five-Man Band (The good guys):

The Five-Man Band is a group of characters whose members fall into archetypes which all complement one another. They are a very specific team with skills that contribute to the group in a unique way.

The group traditionally includes:

•The Hero — (lead singer) The leader of the group. Can be clean-cut and upstanding, bold and charismatic, serious and driven, or some combination of the three. (Added note is I'd like for the Hero to be Female. Either Lady of War or a Cute Bruiser would be nice, but it could be some other feminine combatant role)

•The Lancer — (lead guitar) The second-in-command, usually a contrast to The Hero. If the Hero is clean-cut and/or uptight, the Lancer is a grizzled Anti-Hero or Deadpan Snarker; if the Hero is driven and somewhat amoral, the Lancer is more relaxed and level-headed.

•The Smart Guy — (keyboardist) The physically weak, but intelligent or clever member. Often nerdy and awkward played for comic relief. Sometimes unconventionally young (early- to mid-teens). Sometimes a trickster and a buddy of the Big Guy. May be the one with all the "street" connections.

•The Big Guy — (drummer) The strongman of the team. May be dumb. Or mute. (An added note is I'll be making The Big Guy and I'd like for him to experience The Worf Effect at some point, or at least some variation)

•The Chick — (vocal effects, tambourine) A peacekeeping role to balance out the other members' aggression, bringing them to a nice or at least manageable medium. The Chick is often considered the heart of the group. Not always female, but the role is usually taken by the Token Girl (hence the name). Sometimes referred to as "the useless girl". (I would appreciate that 'The Chick' would fit into a 'Healer' role, since The Chick is usually a peace-keeper. Especially since the Hero will be female so I expect she'll be the Lady of War or Cute Bruiser etc.)


A Sixth Ranger is perfectly acceptable. Note that I don't know how long this will go on but if it's long then we can have a successful sixth ranger of whatever side tropes you decide, and I'd prefer that only a sixth Ranger be the Token Evil Teammate.
A Team Pet will be needed if anyone has a suggestion, though I suppose it isn't necessay.

Which brings us to the Five-Bad Band, which will consist of our evil side.

Five-Bad Band:

Heroes aren't the only ones who enjoy bonding in groups of five. Villains do it, too, and this trope is the Evil Counterpart of the Five-Man Band. This isn't necessarily done to mirror the heroes or provide any sort of advantage; in fact, many Five Bad Bands are in place even before the Five-Man Band is. Note also that Five Bad Bands are more fluid than Five Person Bands, open to more roster changes, and there may not even be five of them, though there are never fewer than four.

The roles in a Five-Bad Band are:

•The Big Bad - Counterpart to The Hero, or if present sometimes the Big Good. Large And In Charge, with an inner circle of mooks to do their bidding and often also an Evil Army as well. Often will be more difficult to identify early on because of the very nature of a Big Bad. Occasionally pulls double duty as the Evil Genius.

•The Dragon - Counterpart to The Lancer, or on occassion The Hero if the Big Bad v Big Good thing is going on. Usually more physical than their boss, and commonly the most trusted member of the bunch. Good for leading Mooks, and sometimes the most 'classy' looking. Much like The Lancer, in the absence of a Sixth Ranger Traitor, The Dragon is the most likely to betray the team (especially if they're The Starscream), and may bear their share of resentment towards the Big Bad *
although if there's more than one Dragon, odds are at least one will be fully loyal. More likely to be The Hero's Evil Counterpart or Worthy Opponent within the context of the story than the Big Bad is. (I'm fine with their being Two Dragons but one MUST be a Dragon with Agenda while the other is perfectly loyal)

•The Evil Genius - Counterpart to The Smart Guy. Operates the weapons or acts as Mission Control for the others. Often essential to the evil scheme; their screwing up could mean the entire thing falls apart. Most likely of this group to be Bad Boss'd for this very reason. Ironically, being less manically evil doesn't make them a better candidate for a Heel Face Turn, as they are often just completely amoral. More prone to insanity or other quirks than others. Very likely to be a Mad Scientist (or an Evil Sorcerer in fantasy-oriented works). Also the band role most likely not to be included, as many bands simply opt for two Brutes.

•The Brute - Counterpart to The Big Guy. If the Dragon doesn't lead the Mooks, they will. While likely not better in a fight than The Dragon, is often the most physically powerful and often the most sadistic. Likes to fight and get his hands dirty, and is usually second best to the Dragon at doing so. Oh, and they are big, and sometimes (but not always) pretty dim. (I'll be making the Brute, but just so the person making the Dragon knows, the Brute will be the one directly leading the army even if the Dragon outranks him)

•The Dark Chick - The counterpart to The Chick, they can vary quite significantly, and is chiefly defined by looking or acting wildly different from the other members, adding color to the group. It's this member that stands out for one reason or another, and may be considered the "freak" or loose cannon of the group, particularly by her own members. If in an optimistic setting, she will be the one most likely to be redeemed and not die horrifically (and probably hook up with The Hero or The Lancer). If not, then she becomes a one part Dominatrix and one part Yandere for The Hero (if male, with exceptions) if she holds any type of romantic interest towards him at all. Or just one or the latter.




Whoever makes the Big Bad please give him either a cat to pet or a dragon to ride and maybe a few puppies to kick. Oh whoever makes the Evil Genius make him a Magnificent Bastard, because I truly love one once in a while. The Big Bad can be one instead but I'd really really like at least one, and a Complete Monster somewhere among the Five Bads would be nice.

Alright so before I said I'd be making The Big Guy. That was before this became a Futuristic setting. Flame now has made the Big Guy and I'll be making the Brute instead, in addition to The Smart Guy.

I call Lancer! Also, rather than another medieval RP; might I suggest an alternative: make the rP in the future, with some medieval vibes. Like, for example, lightsaber wielding space knights, or something like that.

ah, good idea. To be honest we are lacking in Futuristic RPs.

How about we go all the way and have magic-powered space craft and technology? That way we can have the supernatural and the futuristic together.

The Lightsabers are a good idea too. Maybe we can go a little farther and have energy edged-broad swords as an option. Of course, if we go futuristic I don't mind just letting whoever makes their characters make up the tech for that character.

Name: Shizuka Fukimora

Age: 19

Gender: female

Appearance: Long black hair, brownish eyes. Somewhat short.

Abilities: Very skilled swordfighter; even more skilled a martial arts. Tends to get away with ridiculous marial arts moves that most people would just look stupid if they even attempted. One of the few people that know the Death Chop; a martial arts move that reduces your opponent to a bloody pulp with just one blow...but takes a heavy toll on the user.

Role in Five Man Band: The Lancer

Weapon: A laser sharpened katana. Yeah, sure, there are lightsabers in universe, but she likes her katana. Why? Cause Katanas never run out of batteries in the middle of a fight like lightsabers often do.

Personality: Very laid back, and snarky. Though she'll gladly punch a hole through you if you piss her off; it takes alot to do so.

Backstory: Will add later.

Name: Theresa "Bitch" Everywhere

Age: 19

Gender: Female

Appearance: Wild blond hair, red eyes.

Abilities: Is a good shot, and (due to being a weird experiment) can duplicate herself as much as she wants. The duplicates die in one hit, though, and aren't good shots like the original is.

Role in Five Bad Band: Dark Chick

Other tropes applying to them: Me's A Crowd, Red Eyes Take Warning, Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy, Perky Female Minion, Doppelganger Attack, Twin Threesome Fantasy(with herself).

Weapon: A simple blaster rifle.

Personality: Very upbeat and perky. About killing.

Backstory: Created in a tube by Immortus, Theresa had no childhood. Having been created at age 15, she bonded with 'Daddy' very quickly. She knows that she was made by him, and serves him loyally.

Name: Jenna Baxter

Age: 12

Gender: Female

Abilities: A master hacker and user of traps and explosives. Can pick locks, and is also an incredible liar and is well aware of many things that, at her age, she should not be aware of. Capable of inventing just about anything for whatever the situation may be. Has a jet propelled magic broom.

Other tropes applying to them: Science Hero, For Science!, Gadgeteer Genius, Machine Empathy, Magic-Powered Pseudo Science (This applies to a lot of tech in this world anyway), Fragile Speedster, Glass Cannon (In reference to her high-explosives, however a lot of her technology isn't even used in battle by her alone), (further will be added when I feel like it)

Personality: Loves machines, doesn't particularly care for people. A little on the Mad Scientist side but really a good person at heart who cares for the future of Humanity in general even if people annoy her.

Backstory: A true scientific genius even at the age of 5, she quickly mastered all forms of math and science known to man by the age of 11. And that included space age technology! Now twelve, she spends much time inventing things that will help save the world from various problems.

Abilities: Super strength and endurance, she can take a hit and dish it back out, granted her attacks tend to be slow heavy hitters. She carries a hammer with her with nano technology that allows it to change size at will.

Other tropes applying to them: Little Miss Badass, Mighty Glacier, Made of Iron, Super Strong Child, Pintsized Powerhouse, Cute Bruiser, Little Miss Snarker, Tsundere, Berserk Button: Do NOT hurt her friends (often leads to Unstoppable Rage), Drop the Hammer, Determinator, Red Eyes Take Warning (goes along with Berserk Button and Unstoppable Rage), Gotta Have Blue Hair

Personality: Can be irritable, blunt and often rude, but is intensely devoted to her friends and will do everything in her power to protect them.

Backstory: A genetically engineered human, designed to be a powerful warrior. Heidi exhibits herself as the most successful subject of their creations. Growing up, she was taught to fight and harness all her power as the ultimate fighter. However, this life was not all too great to the young girl, so she escaped the clutches of those scientists and ran off to travel on her own. She has an intense dislike for people who remind her of her days growing up in the lab. (IE, she hates scientist of any ind).

Personality: A powerful machine with a pure killer instinct. It's only function is to obey it's master. Although this is true, it also seems to have a personality of its own that causes it to hate or like certain things.

Backstory: merely the machine created by the Evil Genius.

Gender: Male

Appearance: A tall priestly man with a long robe. A golden beard and short hair under his robe. Small round glasses.

Abilities: Johnathon has a small set of magnificent gadgets. What they do and how he uses them is a surprise.

Role in Five Man Band: The Evil Genius

Other tropes applying to them: Mad Scientist, Magnificent Bastard (His plans never seem to fail and will often surprise you), (Will add more when I'm less lazy)

Personality: On the surface he seems to be a kind priest. His facial features and body language play the part well to match his words of kindness.

On the inside, however, he is actually a dark and foreboding evil. He has his own goals that he must accomplish, and they coincide with that of the Big Bad. When he is not pretending to be someone else, he will come off as incredibly crazy.

Name: Natasha Bloom

Age: 18

Gender: Female

Abilities: Nat has the skill of a beginner swordsman....I mean, swordswoman. With the advantage of using her screeching voice in battle, she slashes through most of her enemies with her trusted katana. And, if long-ranged, she uses her voice to send high pitched sound waves their way to stop them from getting any closer, or use as a distraction.

Role in Five Man Band: The Hero

Other tropes applying to them: Skilled but Naive, Heroic Spirit, She Will Come For Me, Action Girl, etc.

Personality: Smart, charistmatic, and driven, Nat can be described to some as a hard-working girl who stands up and goes for what she wants. She's very low-maintance and can also be described as a bit of a mellow chic sometimes. When it comes to fighting, she can get very serious and deadly, protecting her group of friends and/or anyone she cares about deeply.

Backstory: The naive, idiotic leader of the group. Although she sometimes acts like she has no idea what the hell is going on, she leads her group with determination and awesomeness. She had the chance to join with the government to fight against the aliens, but she is one of the very few who doesn't find anything wrong with them and will protect their unique race if needed. Even though some don't trust her, and others want her dead obviously, Natasha will fight through all the obstacles to preserve the alien race...as long as she gets enough food and ass-kicking that is.

Name: Overlord Immortus

Gender: Male

Appearance: A suave man in a suit, who looks 20-something

Abilities: Is an incredibly human-looking cyborg, though having made himself for leading and not fighting, he only has slightly above average physical abilities. He's incredibly intelligent, however, and thus knows how to fight rather well. He has a laser pistol and energy sword on him at all times. Also owns a flying motorbike that is well-armed.

Role in Five Bad Band: Big Bad

Other tropes applying to them: Evil Overlord, The Chessmaster, Complete Monster, Laser Blade, Fantastic Racism, Taking Over the World, Lawful Evil,.

Personality: Likes to throw people off of his balcony. As a hobby. He treats most people as dispensable, and tolerates no act against him.

Backstory: Once a simple politician, trying to be honest unlike his coworkers. Immortus grew angry at the growing pollution of humans, and the fact that they were upstaged by aliens. Immortus criminalized the aliens, and sought to create an army that would drive them all away. he received the funding quickly, having inspired pure rage against aliens in the majority of the Government. The army secretly threatened many political figures, and made a few 'disappear'. Having taken over the government via this clever ploy of pitting humanity against the 'Alien Menace,' Immortus proceeded to initiate a war to reconquer the planet for humanity, which he is still fighting.

Personality: Jack is an angry, angry person with a dark personality. He often wonders why things happen and fails to find the answer. Because of a lack of his own purpose, he serves the Big Bad. Despite his darkness, he's proud and honourable.

Backstory: As a parentless victim of amnesia with talent, Jack was recruited by the Big Bad's forces at an early age. His rage was cultivated to make him a force to be reckoned with on the battle field, and he eventually rose to the position of the Big Bad's joint second in command.

Name: Vanilla "Van" Marquay

Abilities: Skilled in espionage, poisoning, blades, and has a knowledge of pressure points. Since he is half Volzylingonwok, he has limited psychic abilities such as telepathy, telekinesis, clairvoyance, and pyrokinesis. He can also dance and sing, but that's something he'd rather keep secret about.

Role in Five Man Band: (TBR)

Other tropes applying to them: Tall, Dark, and Snarky; Fail O'Suckyname; Puss in Boots; Battle Butler; Submissive Badass (more will be added later... maybe...)

Personality: Calm, collected, a bit laid back. He serves as Jack's anchor and tries to calm him whenever he was in his moods. The only things that can make him truly angry or upset is if something happens to Jack or someone mocks his name. If the latter, he will kick that person's ass.

Backstory: Born to a human father and alien mother, both of which he never knew, he grew up alone on the streets with no one to care for him. He knew early on that he was half Vol, but seeing the discrimination around him he kept it a secret (it was easy since he looked human). He was able to find a job working as a lowly servant in Immortus' household. He made friends with one of the butlers though and was taught many things, notably fighting and keeping to the shadows. The Head Butler saw potential in him and he was appointed as Jack's personal servant and, later on, bodyguard.

Van pitied Jack at first, but he grew to genuinely care for Jack and try to help him as much as he could. He hates Immortus as well because of the war and the discrimination against Vols. But he stays for Jack's sake.

Considering his name, he was named in the Vol language and, translated, it means vanilla which actually has a meaning in the Vol culture. But he still resents having such a name and insists on being called Van.

I still want to join. So what should I do...?

Edit: Wait... you know what? I think I'll take you up on that offer of being your Dragon's minion. Can I do that? Can Van be Jacky's little puppy? And if so, what tropes does that entail? o3o

Thought you'd make a girl, my bad. Lol, jk, umm... not sure, ask Spidey. I suppose it'd depend on whether he was loyal to Jack or the evils.

My plans are that neither of the Dragons I control end up as Dragons, so there's still a space for someone who will stay a Dragon, if you'd prefer.

If you want to make him Jack's underling, you should probably lower his age. or make him female. Or both. Or neither.

Abilities: Expert swordswoman, but prefers to use laser-edged rapier, competent with long-ranged weapons such as bows and firearms, always carries a laser pistol just in case (more will be added)

Role in Five Man Band: The Dragon (the loyal one)

Personality: Cold, calculating, no-nonsense, hates disorder, hates failure, hates aliens, is extremely loyal to Immortus.

Backstory: She was an orphan and was taken in by Immortus himself. Everything she wanted, Immortus gave and she looked up to the man who "saved her". She also took on his characteristics like his prejudice against aliens and his cold exterior. She would do anything for Immortus, even give her own life.
